Roland, Oklahoma is the last exit and a direct route to Fort Smith, Arkansas which is approximately 5 miles from Roland, Oklahoma exit. Roland has been experiencing a definite growth spurts mainly due to the new CHEROKEE CASINO of which is now in the process of enlarging their facility. Not to mention, a number of new businesses located around and near the specific exit. A new Valor and Pilot Travel Plazas, McDonalds, Wendys, and Travelodge are located near this site. Some of Roland�s largest employers are the Cherokee Casino which employs 382 employees, Arospace, a manufacturer, presently employs 160 employees, OK Foods 609 employees, FWCC Trucking 80 employees, Sendee Sales Company and Futon Factory 24 employees, Cherokee Building Materials, Comfort Coils, several furniture manufacturing companies, and several home health agencies offers employment to Roland. In the Fort Smith area are companies such as Whirlpool, Rheem, Baldor, Trane, as well as, Norton Foods, Tyson Chicken Plant, and Gerber that offers employment to the Roland and Fort Smith citizens. Also, there are a number of new housing developments under construction in the Roland area ranging from medium income housing to upper income ranges.
Fort Smith has been chosen for the new site for the U.S. MARSHALS MUSEUM to be located at the first building just after you cross over the Arkansas Bridge. Fort Smith has a number of major hotels, a Convention Center and offers its visitors rail and trolley service for a very unique experience! However, the City of Fort Smith has stated that with the new RIVERFRONT DEVELOPMENT Fort Smith will need to see more hotel springing up in Fort Smith and the Roland area to accommodate visitors coming to this area.
